Activity 8 : Building Persona

This was a special one, our first on campus 'Think Lab'

Warm Up Activity

In the warm-up activity we had to observe a set of objects shown to us using the projector and jot down the characteristics of the person who'd own these objects. After a class-wide analysis we were able to pin point the age category, gender, occupation, and the personality of this person.

Main Activity

We received a mystery bag with the contents belonging to 'Sudha' (that's the name we gave this person). Inside the bag we got a unfinished pillow case, polyfill, a couple of bangles, needle and thread, embroidery thread which was inside a handmade phone case/carrier sling.

Apart from these objects we also received a set of photos of the working environment of Sudha. So a closet with a lot of clothes kept neatly and packed nicely. Most of it was saaris. There was also an image of iPad and iPhone.

Reflection

  • Studying one's personality based on their personal artifacts could give a very appropriate judgement.

  • Creating a user persona is very important for a designer as it helps them shape their work, test it out to the target audience.

  • Our characteristics accuracy score was around 70%, we missed the age group by almost half. Our judgement was a huge miss there.
