Activity 2 : Altering Perception 2 (Scale & Context)

Today's activity was an extended part of altering our perception, centred around scale and context. Scale, is a measure of a particular thing and Context is the setting in which a particular thing exists or occur.

Warm-up Activity:

We were shown a traffic cone in different setting. Like a normal traffic cone on the road, a scaled up traffic cone as an art installation, scaled down traffic cone as a pair of earrings.

Then we saw ice cream cone light bulb holders, ice cream cone furniture.

Main Activity:

We, as a group had to choose an object and change it's context by playing around with it by scaling it. We selected the "Paper Cutter". Intially we struggled coming up with ideas, some of the ideas we were getting didn't really fit the criteria given to us, but 15 mins into the ideatation process, after staring at the paper cutter from different ideas we came up with 8-9 ideas and started working on the sketches.

My ideas/perceptions were The Elevator & The Train.

Group Work

Learning Mantra : You'll get plenty of ideas but there'll be only few that work well as the end-product.

Reflection : Working with scale & context was pretty easy for me. I understood the activity well and was able to execute the ideas nicely.
